Wendy J. Nickel

WORCESTER - Wendy J. Nickel, 64, died at home on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 . She was predeceased by her husband, Jon Nickel, and her parents, Barbara and Ronald Spakauskas.

She leaves behind her daughter, Kate Martin and her husband Sean Martin, and two grandchildren; her sister, Cheryl Spakauskas; her brother, Joel Spakauskas and his wife Wendi; her niece Emily Marquis and her husband Cam Marquis, and nephew Jack Spakauskas; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Wendy grew up in Holden and attended UMass Amherst. She worked for many years in senior living as a Traditional Care Director, where she found meaning in her work and cared deeply about the residents, their families, and her colleagues.

Throughout her career in various roles, she led recreational programs and activities and enjoyed creating moments of connection and engagement for the people around her.

Outside of work, Wendy valued friendships and enjoyed spending time and laughing her memorable laugh with friends.

The beach was Wendy’s happy place. She loved the sun, the sand, and the salt air and being near the ocean brought her joy.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 23, 2026 from 4:00–5:00 PM, followed by a memorial service from 5:00–6:00 PM, at Kelly Cremation and Funeral Care, 154 Lincoln Street, Worcester, MA.
