LEICESTER - Sonja F. Higgins, 99, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 13, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and enduring strength.
She is survived by her daughter, Audrey S. Roberts and her husband, Charles, of Spencer; two grandchildren, Jeffrey P. LeBlanc II and his wife, Lynda, of Spencer, and Jennifer A. Carlson and her husband, Kevin, of Leicester; along with five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert L. Higgins, in 2018, and her son, Duane R. Higgins, in 2001.
Sonja was born in Reppin, Germany, the daughter of Albert and Frieda (Joksch) Kranich. While living in Germany, she met her husband, Robert L. Higgins, a U.S. soldier stationed there. The couple married on August 20, 1953, in Mannheim, Germany, beginning a marriage that would span more than six decades. In 1954, Sonja emigrated to the United States with her husband, first settling in Worcester before later making their home in Leicester.
