Shirley Christine Murphy Wood

Shirley Christine Murphy Wood, 87, of Worcester, passed away on Tuesday, September 8th at her residence, Life Care Center of Auburn. She was born on February 25, 1939 in Worcester.

Shirley had a lifelong love of travel, especially when the journey led to the ocean. She cherished her winters in Florida, when she could, and, later in life, traveled to many destinations, including Hawaii, Bermuda, and Alaska, always eager for the next destination and the next story to bring home.

Above all, Shirley dedicated herself to raising her six children. She enjoyed creative pursuits during her crafting years, treasured her lunches with friends, and for a time embraced country line dancing with great enthusiasm. She held a special fondness for summers spent at her camper, for Elvis, scary movies, and a good lobster roll or any seafood restaurant. Those who knew her well will also remember, with a smile, her charming collection of ceramic skunks, cherished keepsakes that lined her shelves and windows and never failed to spark a conversation.

Shirley is survived by her six children, thirteen grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren, who will carry her memory, and no doubt a few of her stories, forward. She will be greatly missed.

Cremation is being handled by Kelly Cremation & Funeral Care. A private interment of ashes will take place at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton for family, at a date to be determined.
