Robert Charles Szabo, Jr.

August 26, 1963 — October 7, 2025

Robert Charles (Rob) Szabo, Jr., age 62, passed away on October 7, 2025, in Worcester, Massachusetts. He was born on August 26, 1963, in Danbury, Connecticut.

Rob devoted 47 years of service to Crowley Auto Group, with varying roles of responsibility through his most recent (long-term) role, IT Manager. His long-standing tenure at Crowley was a testament to his loyalty and work ethic.

Outside of his professional life, Rob was an adventure-seeking spirit with an enthusiasm for aviation and interests in hiking, climbing, scuba diving, and martial arts. He earned his private pilot license in 1984 and subsequently his instrument rating in 1990. He also earned his first-degree black belt in Kenpo in 1995.

His love for the skies extended beyond aviation into skydiving—a pursuit that became his true passion. Since earning his skydiving license in 2001, Rob completed over 5,000 jumps around the world including exotic locations such as Costa Rica, Dubai, the Maldives, and South Africa. He also held multiple state and national records in formation skydiving and canopy formation skydiving.

Rob was not only an accomplished skydiver but also a well-respected mentor within the skydiving community. As an Accelerated Freefall Instructor, he generously shared his knowledge with new jumpers. His contributions helped shape countless skydivers’ journeys and left an indelible mark on the sport.

Those who knew Rob will remember him for more than just his accomplishments. Whether greeting someone with a warm smile or a signature eye roll that somehow conveyed affection just as clearly, Rob had a way of making people feel seen and valued. His kindness, patience, and generosity with both his time and talent left lasting impressions on all who crossed his path.

Rob will be forever remembered by his partner of twelve years, Bryce Painter; his close friend, David Gerstein; mother, Gladys Szabo; sister Dawn (Joseph) Grimes, five nieces, and one great-nephew. Rob was predeceased by his father, Robert Szabo Sr.

Rob’s passing leaves an enormous hole in the skydiving community, and in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

More information about an ash dive and Memorial Celebration of Life for Rob will be shared at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Rob Szabo to the skydiving club he called home for so many years, Connecticut Parachutists, Inc (https://skydivect.com/about/donate-cpi).
