Worcester - Richard “Tex” Cheroff, 72, passed away on October 22, 2026. He was born in Worcester to the late Martin and Evelyn (Booth) Cheroff.
Richard was an easygoing, laid-back guy who loved music and had a natural talent for making it. He played guitar for over 60 years and knew just about every Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan song by heart. His passion for music took him to the stage, where he had the opportunity to open for well-known bands such as REO Speedwagon and Aerosmith.
Richard, or “Tex” as some affectionately called him, was popular in Central Mass in the 70s and 80s with his bands Glass Leaf, Run Dry, and many others. He moved to Texas, where he played in the band Kingpin, and Florida for many years, or wherever his music would take him. His guitar was a lifelong companion, and music remained an important part of who he was.
He leaves behind his sisters, Elizabeth “Joyce” Sheehan of Worcester, and Eileen Johnston and her husband Charles of Cherry Valley; his children, Zachary, Lynn, and Andrea Cheroff; and several nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.
He is predeceased by his siblings, Everett “Joe” Cheroff and Maureen Watson.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, November 10th from 10:00 – 12:00 PM at Kelly Cremation and Funeral Care, 154 Lincoln Street in Worcester, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 PM in the funeral home. Interment will take place at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton following the service.
