Michael Steven Sweeney, Sr.

d. June 18, 2026

Michael Steven Sweeney, Sr. passed away at home on June 18, 2026, and went to be with Jesus. While his family grieves his loss, they find comfort in knowing he has been reunited with the loved ones he missed so dearly.

Michael was known for his larger-than-life personality. He was outgoing, loud, and never met a stranger. Whether at a family gathering, in the neighborhood, or on the road, Michael could strike up a conversation with anyone and often left people laughing with his stories, humor, and unmistakable presence. His strong personality and generous heart made a lasting impression on all who knew him.

For more than 30 years, Michael worked as a CDL truck driver, a career he was proud of and dedicated to throughout his life. He was a hardworking man who spent countless hours behind the wheel, providing for his family and building a life centered on loyalty, perseverance, and love.

Michael was predeceased by his beloved wife of 35 years, Mary Sweeney, whose loss he carried with him every day. He was also predeceased by his cherished daughter, Carrie Ann Plouffe. Though their absence left a profound void in his life, he never stopped loving them or speaking of the memories they shared. His family finds peace in knowing that he is now reunited with them once again.

He leaves behind his loving son, Michael Sweeney Jr., and his partner of 17 years, Luis Aviles, of Millbury, Massachusetts; his mother, Terry Elliot, of North Brookfield, Massachusetts; his brother, Stephen Sweeney, and his wife, Lisa Sweeney, of Leicester, Massachusetts; his grandchildren, Faith Petrides, Brianna Petrides, Zachary Goddard, Felicia Whalen, and Steven Whalen; and his treasured great-grandchildren, Alyssa Richardson-Duff, Maverick Serrenho, Harper Rae Ann Goddard, and Willow Grace Ann Goddard. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish the memories they shared with him.

In his later years, Michael found great comfort in the companionship of his two loyal dogs, Tucker and Baby Girl. They remained faithfully by his side and brought him joy, comfort, and unconditional love. He enjoyed simple pleasures: sharing stories, spending time with family, watching the world go by from his favorite chair, and never missing an opportunity to tell someone exactly what was on his mind.

Above all else, Michael loved his family. He was proud of his children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren and took great joy in watching his family grow through the generations. His laughter, his stories, his stubbornness, and his unmistakable voice will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by those fortunate enough to have known him. Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in our faith and in knowing that Michael has found peace in the presence of the Lord and has been reunited with Mary and Carrie. His memory will live on through the many lives he touched and the family who will continue to carry his love forward.

Services will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Kelly Cremation and Funeral Care, www.kellycremation.com
