Westminster

Martin Harry Janhunen, 76, of Westminster, MA, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025 surrounded by his family.

Born on March 6, 1949, he was son of the late Martin Unto Janhunen and Florence Mary (Peterson) Janhunen. Marty was an avid fisherman, trapper, hunter and logger by trade. He worked as a logger for most of his life up until retirement. He owned and operated his own tree businesses as well, M.H. Janhunen Logging and SMR Tree Service. He handled trees with a skill and strength that truly set him apart. He was tough to the core and lived life on his own terms, a true rebel, he had a strength that truly embodied SISU, a Finnish term for "strength and determination in the face of adversity". He was a true "woodsman" as he would say and was happiest out in the wilderness doing what he loved. He enjoyed reading, history, and movies. He loved westerns and always wished he was born in the times of the wild west. He was a wild soul born after his time. He truly loved his family and passed on his love of fishing and the outdoors to his children and grandchildren who he was most proud of.

He is survived by his wife, Donna (Owen) Janhunen. He leaves his daughter, Sarah Florence Janhunen of Westminster, MA, his son Martin David Janhunen of Hubbardston, MA, and daughter Rachel Lee Janhunen of Santa Cruz, CA. He was the proud grandfather of Ayden, Avalyn, Martin and Everett He is also survived by his brother Jeffrey Janhunen, sister Linda Janhunen and sister Cheryl Janhunen, Step Mother Kertuu Janhunen and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother Eric Janhunen, grandmother Anna (Korhonen) Janhunen and grandfather Otto Janhunen.

Per Marty's wishes, graveside services will be private at Woodside Cemetery, Westminster, MA. Family and Friends are warmly invited to a Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 8, 2025 from 12pm to 5pm at the Westminster VFW, 3 Eaton St., Westminster, MA, all are welcome.
