Athol, MA

Mark Allen Chartier, 66, of Athol, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026, at UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on November 18, 1959, in Ware, Massachusetts, Mark was the son of Robert Chartier and Annette Dansereau.

Mark was a kind, caring, and humble man whose gentle heart touched everyone who knew him. After retiring, he found great joy in one of his favorite hobbies—collecting rocks. Whether exploring nature or sharing his latest find with family and friends, he appreciated the beauty in even the simplest things. His kindness, quiet strength, and genuine compassion left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Mark is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Maria Luisa Chartier; his stepchildren, Aris Gradian and Gabrielle Grenier; and his beloved grandson, Colin Grenier, who brought him so much joy. He is also survived by his mother, Annette Dansereau; his siblings, Sharon Simpkiss, Donald Chartier, and David Chartier; along with their spouses, nieces, nephews, and many great- nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Chartier.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Mark’s life at a Celebration of Life to be held in Athol, Massachusetts. The date and time will be announced once family members traveling from out of town have arrived.

One of Mark’s favorite sayings was, “Take one day at a time.” Those simple words reflected the courage, patience, and quiet resilience with which he lived his life. They will continue to inspire those who loved him.

Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in the memories we shared and the love he gave so freely. Mark’s kindness, laughter, and unwavering love for his family will never be forgotten.

You will be forever missed, Mark. We love you always and will carry your memory in our hearts every day. Rest peacefully.
