NORTHBRIDGE - Marian (Simonds) Breault, 91, formerly of Ashland and Winchendon, MA, passed away peacefully on June 6th at Advinia Care in Northbridge, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Her husband of fifty years, LaVerne Breault, passed away in 2005
The daughter of Irene (Davis) and Charles Simonds, she was born and raised in Springfield, VT. It was there that she met Verne and they started dating soon after HS graduation. She attended the University of Vermont for one year before marrying Verne and starting their family, living on Naval bases in Maine and Connecticut and on the campus of Keene State in New Hampshire. They moved to Bellingham, MA with their three children, added one more, and finally settled in Ashland in 1967. Upon Verne’s retirement, they moved to their former summer home in Winchendon, MA.
Marian was a stay at home mom until her children were in school. She then returned to college, receiving her bachelor’s degree from Framingham State in 1973. She worked in the Ashland public schools as a Special Education aide before returning to secretarial work with Kelly Services and Bank of Boston, where she worked for 15 years.
Marian and Verne loved dancing, especially the jitterbug. They also began running in their 50s, with Marian competing in 5k road races. She had the honor of receiving a laurel wreath from Bill Rodgers as an age-group winner in a Boston race. Post retirement, Marian enjoyed going to yard sales, doing jigsaw puzzles, attending exercise classes and walking up to four miles a day. She maintained her sense of humor well into her illness and remained a kind and sweet lady to the end.
Marian is survived by her four children, Cheryl Jackson and her husband, Chico, of Chattanooga, TN, Donna Kane of Franklin, MA, Jeffrey Breault of Angel Fire, NM, Leslie Breault and her husband, Mark Mungeam, of Douglas, MA, eleven grandchildren, Amber Gaddy and Cori Haynes, Lindsey Breault and Tiffany Kane, Dalton and Wyatt Breault, Courtney, Ross, Braden, Trevor and Keely Mungeam, and five great-grandchildren, Ava Pettis, Solomon Gaddy, Teagan Cinquegrano, Charlotte and Catherine Haynes, her sister, Joyce Breault of Woodstock, VT and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and her siblings, Charles (Gus), Eleanor and Robert.
We are grateful to the staff at Advinia Care Northbridge and Salmon Home Care for taking such good care of our mom. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Marian’s memory.
