SHARON - Margaret “Peggy” (O’Neill) Fuchs passed away on April 12, 2025 in Sharon, Massachusetts at the age of 84.
Peggy was born on April 4, 1941 to Harold O’Neill and Margaret (Dooley) O’Neill in White Plains, New York. In 1977 Peggy married Michael Fuchs and through 46 years of devoted marriage they raised two children, Stephen and Lynn, and built deep connections within the communities of Scranton, PA and Knightdale/Raleigh, NC. For more than 40 years Peggy was a high school and college chemistry teacher and mentor, predominantly at Scranton High School. While always demanding in the classroom, Peggy was known to let little things slide and always give second chances. This care for others extended to the community where Peggy and her husband helped refugees from around the world settle within the Scranton community.
In life Peggy had great compassion for all, was kind and soft spoken, and had a subtle but surprisingly quick sense of humor. She will be remembered for all of these qualities as well as her love of music, New York sports teams, and squirreling away all candies imaginable. She will be greatly missed.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Michael, her parents, brothers Harold (Bud) and Thomas (Tommy), and sister Marilyn. Her memory is carried forward by children Lynn and Steve (Gauri Dixit), grandchildren Shivali and Anika, sister Kathy, brother Jim, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in Sharon, MA, on Saturday April 26,2025 at 10AM. She will be ultimately laid to rest at St Francis of Assisi Church in Raleigh, NC on Monday April 28, 2025 at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Catholic Relief Services (Catholic Relief Services). The family would like to recognize the compassionate care provided by the team of dedicated hospice teams at Compassionate Care Hospice and Beyond Comfort Private Care.
