September 20, 1959 — August 18, 2025

WEBSTER - Joanne Susan (Maxwell) Scannell, 65, of Webster, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 18, 2025, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was a loving wife and mother who dedicated her life to helping others.

Known affectionately as “JoJo” by her friends, Joanne had an outgoing nature that could light up any room. She was an animal lover who treated her cats as cherished members of the family. She loved the beach, gardening, watching movies, and spending time with friends and family. Joanne is survived by her husband of 33 years Robert Scannell, her son Michael Scannell and his wife Julie (Hoyt) Scannell, her son Sean Scannell, and her brother Robert Maxwell. She is also remembered by several caring aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, their families, and many close friends. Joanne was predeceased by her father Melvin R. Maxwell, her mother Joanne E. (Army) Maxwell, and her brother Barry L. Maxwell.

Joanne was a proud graduate of Springfield College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She dedicated her professional career to acts of compassion and service, with roles that supported the vulnerable and uplifted her community. She worked as a social worker for the Department of Social Services, a toll collector on the Mass Pike, an integrated therapist providing holistic care to hospice patients, and a care coordinator for individuals with substance abuse disorders. She was also a Reiki Master Teacher, offering spiritual healing to those who welcomed it.

A celebration of life will be held in honor of JoJo. The date and venue of the event will be announced at a later time. We invite friends, family, and colleagues to come together, share joyful memories of her, and reflect on the many lives she touched.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your local animal shelter or to the ASPCA in her memory.
