LAWRENCE - James J. “Cricky” Squeglia, 70, of Lawrence, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, May 23, 2025 with family at his side. James was born in Lowell and was the son of the late Angelo and Hazel (Fisher) Squeglia.
James was raised and educated in Lawrence. He worked as a mechanic for Henry’s Auto in Lawrence for many years and also worked as a roofer, landscaper, and house painter during his lifetime. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, reading the Bible, and watching movies about World War II and old television shows, lately he had been enjoying “The Three Stooges”.
James was an avid walker and deeply appreciated the peace and beauty of nature. He was a long-time attendee of the Point After Club of Lawrence and a rally participant for the Danvers State Memorial Committee. James was an ardent admirer of President John F. Kennedy and the Poor Clare Nuns of Andover. He will always be remembered for his devotion to his family and friends, strength of faith, and his big, bright smile.
He is survived by his devoted daughter Sarah Squeglia and her husband John Agcaoili of Pepperell, MA; his beloved former wife Sharon Velazquez Squeglia of Mexico City, MX; his stepsons, Martin Velazquez and his wife Monica, and their children of Carrollton, TX, and Oscar Velazquez of Burbank, CA; as well as extended family members and many, many loving friends.
In accordance with James’ wishes, there will be no funeral services; however, a reception will be held at 114 West Street, Pepperell, MA on Sunday, June 8th from 1:00-5:00 PM. Flowers are appreciated, but memorial donations to Bread & Roses Community Kitchen & Food Pantry or MSPCA at Nevins Farm would also be welcome.
