In Loving Memory of Dr. Hemasundra Reddy Duggireddy (“Hema” / “Dr. D”)
December 31, 1974 - September 22, 2025
It is with profound sorrow, yet with immense love and gratitude, that we share the passing of Hema, formally known as Dr. Hemasundra Reddy Duggireddy and affectionately as Hema or Dr. D. To his family, he was a loving husband and father. To his patients and colleagues, an outstanding dentist. To his staff, the best boss they had ever known. To his friends, a true companion, a mentor, and a brother. His smile and kindness touched everyone he met. His sudden passing at such a young age has left us in shock and sorrow. He touched countless lives in an uplifting way, and his presence will be deeply missed.
What we will remember most is his smile, so contagious that it could light up any room. Everyone who knew Hema remembers him with a happy face, because that is how he always showed up. Light-hearted and genuine, he had a gift for connecting with people of all ages, making them feel seen, heard, and valued. He never judged, never complained, and never let anyone down - always encouraging, always supportive, always present. He took pride in always looking neat and well-groomed, a reflection of the warmth, joy, and thoughtfulness he shared with others.
Hema’s journey was one of humility, perseverance, and inspiration. Born in Kadapa, India, he received his Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Siddhartha Dental College in Vijayawada in 1998, later serving his community as director and owner of Sai Apollo Dental Clinic from 2000 to 2009. His path then brought him to Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine, where he earned his D.M.D. Since 2012, he has practiced dentistry in Massachusetts, known not only for his skill but for the compassion and dedication he poured into every patient relationship.
Yet Hema’s life was never only about work; he embraced joy in everyday moments. You would often see him taking selfies, posing for pictures with his favorite sunglasses, or cooking and making sure everyone had eaten well. He loved biryanis, desserts, and sweets of all kinds, and he took great delight in sharing them with others. He enjoyed music both old and new, traveling, shopping, and watching movies - though most of the time he would fall asleep halfway through. Above all, he loved sharing laughter with family and friends.
Beyond his professional achievements, Hema was defined by his heart and his joy for life. Always smiling and light-hearted, he carried a presence that instantly reassured and uplifted. He never nagged, never judged, never gossiped - he simply supported, encouraged, and cared. With a gift for connecting with people of all ages, he built friendships that became lifelong bonds. He guided and advised many, and just as often offered a listening ear. His helping nature, wisdom, and kindness were a source of strength for many.
Hema’s impact was evident in the circle of love he built. In his final days, hundreds of friends, family, colleagues, and loved ones came to the hospital to be by his side - many traveling from far beyond Boston and the East Coast - a true testament to the lives he touched. Even the nurses and staff caring for him noticed something extraordinary: not just the sheer number of people who came, but the way they stayed. They saw how no one wanted to leave his side, how deeply his presence and his struggle moved everyone. One nurse shared that while she had seen visitors before, she had never witnessed such devotion, such love, and such an unbreakable bond surrounding one person.
To his beloved wife, Sunitha, and their two sons, he was the foundation of their world. To his mother and siblings in India, he was a cherished son and brother whose love reached across oceans. While his sudden illness and diagnosis were painful for all who loved him, we take comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 24, from 8:30am to 10:30am EST at Kelly Cremation & Funeral Care (154 Lincoln St, Worcester, MA 01605). In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Brian Tumor Association.
Live streaming of the services will be available at: https://client.tribucast.com/tcid/a25096462358548
Hema will be remembered for his contagious smile, his generous spirit, and the joy he brought into every life he touched. His love, his light, and his legacy will remain with us always. Though he is gone too soon, his smile will live on in every heart he touched.
