October 10, 1962 — April 29, 2026

David Mahlon McCarthy - It is with the deepest sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, David Mahlon McCarthy. David passed of natural causes on April 29, 2026, at Falmouth Hospital after a lifelong battle with hypertension and hereditary heart disease. He was 63 years old. Born and raised in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, he later made his home on the island of Martha's Vineyard. He fell in love with the island when he first arrived as a seasonal worker. What began as a summer job quickly became a lifelong commitment and he became a proud year round resident.

David will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by his devoted son, Colby Ivler of Las Vegas; his step-son, Jason Ivler, of Manila; his brother Frederick McCarthy and his wife Jeannette of Florida; his sister Deidra Lincoln and her husband Paul of Shrewsbury; his sister Norma McCarthy of Shrewsbury; his beloved Uncle, Robert Moroz of Worcester; and his cousin Tracey Wik of Chicago; and many cherished nieces and nephews and dear friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Teddy and Dorothy McCarthy and his loving aunt, Norma Moroz.

David was a skilled and talented hair stylist with more than 30 years of experience. His career path took him on adventures across the globe, including seasons in Asia, Manila and Hong Kong), London and many cities throughout the United States.

He was a man of many gifts; smart, funny and genuinely kind. He had the gift of gab and a talent for storytelling that could light up a room. David was always quick to lend a helping hand and endlessly appreciative to all who have helped him through the years. He had a flair for unique fashion and loved wearing great hats. He enjoyed cooking, playing cards and cheering on his favorite local teams, the Patriots, the Bruins, and the Celtics, and solving crossword puzzles faster than anyone else. He loved the beach, loved to travel and enjoyed the simple joys of island life.

A private burial service will be held at his request. A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be determined.

David left an indelible imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Those who loved him were truly blessed and his spirit will live on in our hearts forever.
