Cynthia Leah Linkel

July 23, 1957 — September 13, 2025

FITCHBURG - An avid world traveler, lover of theater, music, and museums; Cindy was a proud mother, and beloved friend, sister, and daughter. She squeezed every inch out of life and never turned away someone she loved.

Cynthia Leah Linkel of Fitchburg, Massachusetts passed away surrounded by loved ones in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 13, 2025. Cindy was born in Batesville, Indiana in 1957 to John and Sue Linkel. The first of 12, Cindy spent her childhood years in Orange County, California. She resettled with her family when they moved across the country to Maine. Cindy’s dive into parenthood was as unconventional as the rest of life; raising children in campers, on a boat, in an unfinished camp in the woods of Litchfield, ME, etc. In the late 90’s, she relocated to Pepperell, Massachusetts where she ran the family business (Scotch Pine Farm). Cindy finally settled in Fitchburg where she immediately welcomed her neighbor, Carlos into her family. Cindy loved working with her Wagon Wheel family in Lexington, MA for the last 20 years.

Cindy inspired those around her to live intentionally. Work enough to fund the adventure of life. Spend time with the people you love, doing the things you love. Be curious and unafraid to try as many new things as you can. There wasn’t a problem she couldn’t solve, a trip she couldn’t plan, or a dollar she couldn’t stretch.

Cindy was heavily involved in the 4-H community for which she volunteered countless hours. Cindy’s door was always open to family, friends, and foreign exchange students. Her children never knew who to expect at her house at any given day or time. Cindy was in her element when she was hosting her world-famous “Cinco-de Linkel” parties and creating her Halloween spooky walks in her front yard.

Family was an important pillar of her life. Her children were her ultimate pride and joy. You couldn’t get through a conversation without her bragging about her children and grandchildren’s accomplishments.

Cindy’s definition of family didn’t stop at blood. She was known for adopting her friends into her already large family, inviting them to holidays and family reunions with an ever-present “there’s always room for more” attitude. Cindy built genuine, life-long connections with people from around the world that she never allowed to fade.

Cindy is survived by her parents Sue and John Linkel, her siblings Dion Linkel, Ava Simmons, Marcia Ready (Gene), Lance (Donna) Linkel, Stacie Linkel, Guy (Dana) Linkel, Corey Linkel (Jay), Jason Linkel, and Jak (Jenn) Linkel, her sister-in-law Brenda Beaulieu, her three children Micheal Comeau (Andrea Bosworth), Christina (Tyler) Locke, Matthew Comeau (Ariane Oliveira de Silva), her grandchildren, Drako and Adrien Comeau, along with 19 nieces and nephews whom she loved fiercely. Cindy is preceded in death by her siblings Eric Linkel and Johanna Smith.

There will be a celebration of life at Camp Middlesex, located at 1031 Erickson Rd. Ashby, MA 01431 between the hours of 1 and 6pm on Monday, September 22nd.
