Alice Marie (Schrot) Wilshire, Age 80, born on June 29th, 1945, in Clearfield, Pennsylvania, peacefully passed away on Friday, October 17th. She was the youngest daughter of the late Ethel and Rudolf Schrot.
Alice was preceded in death by her loving husband, Albert G. (Jerry) Wilshire in 2010. She is survived by her son, A. Jason Wilshire and daughter-in-law Heather Wilshire of Shirley, MA, her daughter, Megan (Wilshire) Dupuis and son-in-law Chris Dupuis of Victoria, BC, two grandchildren, A. Jameson Wilshire and Kaylee Dupuis, two siblings, Rudy Schrot and Mary Ann Edmundson, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She will be greatly missed by loving friends and family.
Alice graduated from St. Bonaventure University in western New York with a degree in English and earned a certificate in Library Science from SUNY Geneseo. Both achievements served her well as a children’s librarian in Salamanca, NY. Alice also volunteered at the old Taft Library in Mendon, MA for many years. Her passion for libraries and books continued throughout her life and she often told stories of her time at the library after she retired. In addition to her love of literature, Alice was an avid writer and an excellent storyteller. She was a reporter for the Milford Daily News and wrote creatively. Alice had short stories published in the children's magazines Pockets and Highlights as well as an article published in Woman’s Day.
Alice had a deep love of nature, which led her to volunteer at ‘Garden in The Woods’ in Framingham, MA as a field guide. She often took nature walks near her home, where anyone who joined her would be entertained with the name of every bird, plant, and animal they came across.
Graveside service will be held at 11am on Thursday, November 6th at Quaker Cemetery in Mendon, MA. Arrangements are under the care of Kelly Cremation & Funeral Care, 154 Lincoln Street, Worcester. Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or Brookhaven Hospice Care.
